Chaos Theory:                                                                                   Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics Applied to Human Life

“Chaos often breeds life, while order breeds habit.”

This observation by Henry Adams is deep for a number of reasons. On the one hand, it emphasizes the ability of complex structures (life) to be derived from simple ones (e.g. sperm and egg).  This is a great explanation in scientific terms of “the Evolution of Consciousness”- life in nature… and a divine plan. We can see this in a human being (conscious living in the now moment)… able to handle greater stress… handling chaos as it breeds life… And the opposite end of the spectrum the “personality’s body-mind emotions” of programed ignorance… where “ the order of Consumerism breeds habit” {stagnation}… This is our sinking back into our comfort zone in our ordered society slowly creating entropy [where the system breaks down through a lack of consciousness and available energy] causing mental, emotional and physical sickness and disease…

Note: Entropy: being the thermodynamic measure of the amount of energy unavailable for useful work in a system undergoing change {in a closed system} or the tendency for all matter and energy in the universe to evolve toward a state of inert uniformity {dead in a materialistic paradigm universe, no life, no evolution of consciousness}.

Habit is created when we do the same thing two or more times without further instructions from our conscious brain, [because it is off-line]. When this happens energy runs amuck… creating entropy… and the system breaks down. Chaos breeds life, brings awareness of the biological system (us) to the present now moment, its environment, and conscious change. If we could be more aware of our surrounding for longer periods, we would increase our complexity by exporting our entropy to our environment… We could hit new levels of sustainability on the planet as a species with greater possibilities to reorganizes our lives in these increasingly chaotic times and living through them and beyond our genetic program. Henry Adam’s observation “Chaos often breeds life, while order breeds habit” ties in with Time Wave theory in terms of Novelty (a first cousin to Chaos) and Habit. Too much habit is hazardous to life (sex, drugs and rock-and-roll), while too much novelty/chaos is hazardous to entrenched views, (worn-out religious, social and political paradigms) and structures.

 The Arrow of time

One of the more noteworthy books on the subject is "Order out of Man’s Dialogue with Nature," by Ilya Prigogine and Isabelle Stengers. The idea of obtaining “order” out of “chaos” may sound like an oxymoron, but its experimental demonstration is so profound that this must rank as one of the most disturbingly fundamental discoveries of modern science. The Nobel Prize awarded to Professor Prigogine evidences the fact that it is accepted by mainstream science. From this, it should become readily obvious that Chaos Theory is of fundamental importance to all life and evolution.

Prigogine viewed the arrow of time and irreversibility as playing a constructive role in nature. For him the arrow of time was essential to the existence of biological systems, which contain highly organized irreversible structures. Prigogine’s first major work on irreversible systems was his theorem of minimum entropy production, which was applicable to non-equilibrium stationary states near equilibrium. ... Prigogine next began to work on far-from-equilibrium irreversible phenomena, both in hydrodynamic systems and chemical systems. Such systems, because of nonlinear interactions, can form spatial and temporal structures (dissipative structures) that can exist as long as the system is held far from equilibrium due to a continual flow of energy or matter through the system…

Irreversible systems have an arrow of time which appears to be incompatible with Newtonian and quantum dynamics, which are reversible theories. This incompatibility of the reversible foundations of science with the irreversible behavior that is actually observed in chemical, hydrodynamic, and biological systems remains one of the great mysteries of science.

Human survival and it very evolution may be tied to this concept of spatial and temporal structures… As long as it is held far from equilibrium in chaos… the needed energy for survival and evolution continually flows into the mind, body and spirit through a conscious state of analogical mind that exists in the auric field around the bioelectrical human being. In a far-from-equilibrium-state… the electromagnetic bands of energy in the Auric field spin counter clock-wise.

In a state of order… maximum equilibrium the auric field spins clock-wise in time toward greater entropy… dis-ease and death of the system. Highly structured societies focusing on balance… conformity…tradition…ancient dogmas that must be followed religiously all move toward equilibrium and greater order breeding more habitual prejudicial thinking… racism and ethic cleansing… These societies may be bad for human survival and evolution... they only need a programed personality to carry out its duties during the work week for a stable economic system to flourish for Multi-National Corporations.

Environmental systems flow in Nature from equilibrium to far-from-equilibrium-states… so do great Society’s of the past 10,000 years that we know of… causing world-wide disasters in the different “Ages of Man”…. Forcing humankind from its ordered state in all societies to “World-Wide Chaos” at “the End of an Age”… [or the end of the World].

At  “the End of an Age” when societies are collapsing… at the moment of breakdown… a moment when the chaos reaches the point where the system [the human biological being] can no longer sustain itself…human“dissipative structures” [coherent space-time structures] can form open systems in which an exchange of matter and energy occurs between a system and its environment… at this point in time a bifurcation point is created… At this point, an infinite number of possibilities (literally) present themselves… One of these infinite numbers of options is total breakdown, the death of the system.

This is where all previous great societies end in total destruction without ever knowing there is another option a way out… a way for society to rise above itself… The energy based system can reorganize itself in a new way, at a higher level of functioning… The energy we are talking about  is conscious energy in nature as a state of Consciousness: an Analogical awareness of life…[ all energy in the electromagnetic spectrum is composed of 7 levels or frequencies energy with its foundation in consciousness in the universe].

What is the origin of the arrow of time? Is it a fundamental property of nature, or is it only an illusion? Prigogine’s view was that it must be a fundamental property of nature. In the 1950s, he began to work on the foundations of statistical mechanics and the question of how to reconcile Newtonian mechanics with an irreversible world. […neglecting to include consciousness, as the ground of all being in the universe and the director of the arrow of time toward greater complexity and consciousness is a possible reason for problems with Newtonian mechanics in an irreversible world].

“All matter originates and exists by virtue of a force... we must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Mind. This mind is the Matrix of all Matter” [Mind= Consciousness]. Max Planck, the Noble prize-winning father of Quantum Theory.

Prigogine developed the concept of “dissipative structures” to describe the coherent space-time structures that form in open systems in which an exchange of matter and energy occurs between a system and its environment. Ilya Prigogine received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1977 for “his contributions to nonequilibrium thermodynamics, particularly the theories of dissipative structures.”

“Chaos often breeds life, while order breeds habit.” Emphasizes the ability of complex structures (life) to be derived from simple ones (e.g. sperm and egg)… redefining chaos theory in open systems that maintain, and even increase, their complexity by exporting entropy to their environment.

Ilya Prigogine called this moment of breakdown… a bifurcation point [creating a many pronged fork in the road]… a moment when the chaos reaches the point where the system [the human biological being] can no longer sustain itself. At this point, an infinite number of possibilities (literally) present themselves… One of these infinite numbers of options is total breakdown, the death of the system. Ilya Prigogine states though… “We are living in a dangerous and uncertain world that inspires no blind confidence. However, the other possibilities… infinite in number… all involve the system reorganizing itself in a new way, at a higher level of functioning.  The resulting new system is more complex and more resilient. Because its ability to dissipate entropy to the environment is now higher, it can handle the input the old system could not handle.

This leads us to the subject of Singularities… an Omega Point in consciousness drawn by the arrow of time and the irreversible behavior of consciousness…on an evolutionary path as it accelerates its evolution because it is more complex and more resilient as it rises above the moment of breakdown… the bifurcation point…

In this theory, the universe is constantly developing towards higher levels of material complexity and consciousness… a theory of evolution that Pierre Teilhard de Chardin calls the Law of Complexity/ Consciousness. For Teilhard, the universe can only move in the direction of more complexity and consciousness being drawn by the "Omega Point"- a supreme point of complexity and consciousness.
